Dredillah – Looks Like Blood / Theta Wave [Preview]

Dredillah
10/18/2015

I’ve always been fascinated with the therapeutic applications of music, and more specifically
.frequencies. Research has shown that theta wave frequencies (4 Hz to 8 Hz) are created by your brain during deep meditation, and REM stages of sleep. When your brain is in a theta stage, like day dreaming or sleep you experience vivid visualizations, great inspiration, profound creativity and exceptional insight.

Didn’t mean to get all Mr. Science on you but this is the motivation behind the vibe and feel I wanted to convey when I created the track “Theta Wave”. The track “Looks Like Blood” is a little less mysterious in orgin, but a tad more bass heavy and was inspired by a video project I was working on with a friend at the time. I really like the way the phrase by itself, completely out of context stirs up all sorts of imagery.

The “Looks Like Blood / Theta Wave” two track EP will be released courtesy of the awesome Viral-Mental Records and available in all Drum and Bass friendly online music stores November 6th 2015

4mulate – After Human

4mulate_BIGA few months back I stumbled across the “After Human” EP from the drum and bass artist “4mulate” after a few listens on Spotify I realized this was one of those EP’s I absolutely needed to own. This banging four track Abducted LTD release is a slice of sonic goodness for any DnB head who enjoys the intelligent,  dark, atmospheric, and neuro heavy side of drum and bass. The state of Florida should be very proud of this talent.

The four tracks that make up “After Human” sound consistent when played back to back as one cohesive work…or better yet “experience”. Each of the four tracks is completely solid in its own right. If I had to pick a favorite from “After Human” I’d have to say that “Biohazards” would be it, but the title track  “After Human” is also a fantastic listen.

The incidental samples like on the track “violent skies” add flavor and texture to the already intriguing back drop of 4mulate’s unique brand of DnB.

I don’t know what’s in the water supply down in Ft Meyers Florida but I’ll gladly take a shot of whatever 4mulate is having, do yourself a favor and grab the “After Human” EP on Abducted LTD as soon as you can, you’ll love it. Now i’m off to check out this “8 Miles From The Sun” business.

VMR in the Jungle (Hektic and Paladin)

VMR-in-The_Jungle_CS2857055-02A-BIGI could sit and listen to the amen break all day long. The real joy comes in what each producer/artist chooses to do with it. It’s safe to say I’m a huge fan of Jungle music. I listen to Kool London whenever I get the chance, I think the music of Congo Natty and Goldie are grossly under represented in the USA. Thankfully the UK seems to be a place where this kind of music can flourish. I must admit I was a tad apprehensive (gasp!) when I saw the title “VMR in the Jungle”. ….however after about 30 seconds of the first track, I realized these guys were the real effin deal.

I’m not going to go through and critique all six tracks for you, I’ll leave that mess to the professional bloggers. What I will say, is that even though Hektic and Paladin  have their own unique established styles on their own, you don’t hear a clash of styles and “VMR in the Jungle” sounds like a very well thought out complete work. My two most favorite tracks from this Viral Mental Records release would have to be “Next time” (from Hektic) because of the way the atmospheric sounds creep in, but then entice you with a well placed mysterious dialog sample before dropping you head first into a sub bass heavy river, complete with a symphony of proper amens.

“Chimera” (from Paladin) would be my second highly recommended listen for the “VMR in the Jungle” EP. The tricked out pad/organ set up a smart vibe for the superbly placed full force amens. This is the kind of thing that makes me want to move to England.

Big up to the viral mental crew for releasing this bad boy, earth needs more quality jungle like this.

“What Your telling Me” out now on Viral Mental Records

Dredillah
06/14/2015

What-Youre-telling-Me_Dredillah_400Just in case you haven’t noticed, all of my music has a theme or idea, as an artist it helps me focus. The second release on the mighty Viral Mental Records called “What Your telling Me” is actually the part two of my Doctor Who influenced drum and bass. Rather than to sample the TV show and risk the wrath of the legal gods I recorded several takes a brit friend of mine from across the pond who was talking about the concept of the weeping angels.

As a test I slipped “What Your telling Me” into the recent Dredillah exclusive mix that was recently broadcast on HUSH FM and have received some very positive feedback.

As a related side note for all you grammatical freaks the use of the word “your” and not “you’re” was unintentional. One of the programs I use doesn’t allow the use of the apostrophe, only letters and numbers, so as a result I often intentionally leave these characters out of my titles. No need to send complaints, my mother has already forwarded me copies of the MLA handbook 🙂

Be sure to pick up “What Your telling Me” out now (officially June 5th 2015) in these fine Drum and Bass friendly stores.

Dredillah exclusive mix on HUSH FM

Dredillah
06/14/2015

Deeb-Dredillah-guest-DnB-mix_2015I love the HUSH FM motto of playing all types of music with the common ground being dope beats and originality and much respect to the HUSH crew for having me. Big shout out to the one like Deeb for broadcasting the world’s first ever Dredillah exclusive mix on the one and only HUSH FM, I often battle test my tracks by mixing them in with some of my favorite tracks but have never actually tried to mix my own material non-stop for an hour, it was illuminating to say the least. By including and mixing older tracks with newer ones it was also apparent that my production style had changed. I slipped in a few newer “work in progress” and unreleased tracks and could tell from the IM that they were well received which really keeps me inspired and motivated about future releases. The HUSH FM mix is a free download if you feel so inclined.

Dansant Drum & Bass Two Compilation

Dredillah
05/25/2015

dansant-pressAs proudly mentioned here in a previous post my #DnB track “Arabus Dice” will be appearing on the Swedish drum and bass compilation Dansant Drum & Bass Two. The track itself is a nod and tribute to my artist friends of the past.Even though the sub title is “the Liquid DnB Collection” there are a fairly diverse group of artists included on this release, and for sure is not restricted exclusively to Liquid DnB 🙂 i’m really digging the track that the artist “Projekter” has contributed.

The compilation will officially be available just in time for New Music Monday on June 1st 2015 in all the really cool Drum and Bass friendly online music stores worldwide including Beatport, Junodownload, and of course iTunes …just to name a few. Here’s sneak peek of the track with this nifty player courtesy of Juno download 🙂 ….note, the player is not visible on iPad 🙁

Arabus Dice to appear on Swedish drum and bass compilation.

Rarely do I ever dedicate or write a “song” or “track” for a specific person. I did dedicate an album to a friend as a sign of respect once but have never specifically created music with the actual intent of dedicating it to an individual.

One of the many things I enjoy about music is that, once released, it will exist long after its creator is gone. To me, this makes writing music feel like a great way to pay homage or show respect to a person in a long term capacity.

When I was a kid, one of my first “musical” friends let me know that it was a dream & goal of his to be in a band. Being the curious sort …I asked what the name of his band would be, with out hesitation he told me that, “Arabus” would absolutely be the name of his band. We were both very much into heavy metal and at the time and this seemed like a very metal name. It just so happens that “Dice” was his last name.

For the first time ….under the artist name “Dredillah” I started by writing a “drum and bass” track not with drums ….or bass ….or synthizers….but by beginning with the name first.

As a result, i’m very happy to report that within five days of its completion, this track “Arabus Dice” sparked the interest of Sweden’s very own substream/dansant record label and will be appearing on their latest drum and bass compilation. I thought it would be nice to let you preview some of the track in my latest mix.

Arabus Dice kicks in at about 13 minutes and 52 seconds.
